Food

Since 2004, Pronto has wrapped its warm arms around the city – inviting it to take comfort in a breadth of carbohydrates. With sensational food and wine, and regulars that continue to return for their favourite classics, the Pronto experience lingers on the palate and in the heart.

The lasagne leaped out from the menu, cooked to perfection, it delivered on its promise – with molten layers of pizza, beef and béchamel sauce. Alongside the lasagne, we bit into thin base pizza, topped with fresh ingredients, heaps of Parmesan and dollops of garlic.

The pasta is not cooked in-house, but it is delicious.

The house bolognese sauce with chilli and micro greens made the La Grassa pizza a true delight.

Drinks

The initial Prosecco and Champagne offerings are an intriguing invitation on the first page of the wine list, but it expands to suggest a wide number of varieties and blends. The Mulderbosch Cabernet Sauvignon Rose was ultimately a thoughtful accompaniment to a variety of dishes on the menu.

Service

Pronto is not particularly pronto, which is a challenge during Johannesburg’s frenetic lunch hour. But the team is warm and welcoming.

Unfortunately a regular patron smoked at their table and it wafted to the rest of the outside seating area, however, the guest came to apologise and the beauty of lunch hour returned to la dolce vita

Ambience

The outside seating is comfortable and inviting, plush, velvet couches are the perfect place to watch Johannesburg’s blue sky above and Johannesburg’s Park suburbs fly by below.

Inside, stacked like an Italian Deli, are a variety of South African preserves and spices. The pin-cushions that adorn the door are a nod to the local heritage and its ties to Pronto’s Italian elegance
