Tightline is an expansion of Tyler Loomes’ family’s fisheries business – Tightline Fisheries, which distributes seafood not only throughout KwaZulu-Natal but to the rest of the country too. Tightline is all about experience and lifestyle. As you enter, you can browse the fresh fish counter and select your favourite from the catch of the day. Begin your experience with their selection of small plates and sushi. If you’re feeling adventurous, try out their Insta-worthy sushi burger. Their fresh oysters are perfectly complemented by the delicate sweetness of the honey vinaigrette. When it comes to mains, you obviously can’t go wrong with their seafood, so of course one of the most popular items is their whole deep-fried fish, served hot and sassy with tomato, red onion and pickled ginger salsa. Another favourite is their famous wagyu sando, set on Japanese milk bread with a smatter of tonkatsu sauce. Last year, Tyler opened up Tyler’s Butcher, which supplies Tightline with premium cuts that are grass-fed, dry-aged and locally sourced. They have also now introduced hibachi-style cooking to the menu. On the sweeter side of things, keep some space for their burnt cheesecake, a contrast of pearly-white filling coated with an ooze of burnt caramel sauce. While seafood and now meat are clearly the stars of the show, Tightline is an all-day eatery and offers a small breakfast menu, and a dedicated takeaway menu too. Upon departure, you have the option to bring home your choice of fresh and frozen fish from their deli.
