A quirky retro spot that takes brunch, and of course eggy buns, to all new heights! Situated on Kloof street, the trendy spot might be small and seemingly unassuming from the outskirts, but their menu items pack a serious flavour punch and the décor does not disappoint.
While they might be known for their epic egg-loaded brioche buns, which are a thing of pure joy, if you’ve had one you’ll understand the hype, they’ve actually got a seriously impressive lunch and dinner menu that simply should not be missed!

In keeping with the retro diner style of things, they’ve got a few classics on offer like meatloaf, bangers and mash, and good old beer batter fried fish and chips, but they also serve up a varied assortment of appetizers, sides and main plates. A real mixture of tastes, flavours and techniques, but all served well with some serious finesse.
Their array of unique offerings is bound to satisfy just about any palate! Starting off with their signature mac n cheese balls, with a crispy with golden-crusted finish and a satisfyingly oozy cheddar cheese centre served alongside a house-made sweet chilli sauce – a truly moreish appetiser! But for an egg aficionado, the scotch egg appetiser is an absolute treat.

From a buttery brioche-loaded sweet pulled pork bun to a gourmet hot dog, to a sensationally crisp and spicy chicken burger – each offering well thought out, filling and sumptuously comforting, just like you’d expect from a classic diner’s dinner.
In terms of beverage options, they’ve got all the usual things on offer. A collection of classic cocktails to choose from as well as beer, cider, wine, bubbly, and spirits.

The service was a bit hit and miss, sometimes the staff doesn’t come across as that friendly. But the food didn’t take long to come out and we were greeted and seated on arrival.
In line with their contemporary take on an old-school 70’s diner aesthetic, the welcoming hues of yellow run strong. The extension of the egg-tastic theme is well executed, running from the welcoming menu all to way through to the decor.
It feels luxurious with just the right amount of retro quirk, from yellow-mellow booths to an eclectic assortment of ornaments to the yellow curbside dining, Egghead Diner is a feast to the eyes, which continues through the menu to each plate and straight to the tastebuds.
