Durban North’s hip gourmet burger joint, Republik, is setting up shop west of the city with a second branch at the Colony Centre in the easy-going suburb of Hillcrest.
The new Republik, which is opening for breakfasts and lunches from 23 August, will offer Hillcrest locals a very similar menu to the Durban North branch, plus some new, exciting additions in the pipeline. These will include a healthier slant with more breakfast options, quinoa salads, green salads and barley bowls for lunch.
In addition, fans can look forward to the popular ‘signature chow’ using 100% free-to-roam, grass-fed beef such as the Republik Ed. 6.0 burger with cheesy risotto and a chilli-choc sauce, or the Double Don burger with 360g of beef patties, melted cheddar, bacon jam and mac and cheese. As for the drinks, expect some speciality cocktails, craft beers, well-priced wines and gourmet milkshakes in flavours like Diddle Daddle, brownie, and Peppermint Crisp tart.
From 1 September, Republik Hillcrest will also be open for dinners. Look out for the Monday special, for which diners can grab two burgers and chips, and two half-draughts of craft beer or glasses of wine for R140. The new burger joint will also host open-mic and live-music nights on the first Sunday of every month.
Look out for more opening announcements and the launch of the Hillcrest menu on the Republik Facebook page.
