Located in the quiet Johannesburg neighbourhood of Blairgowrie, Mr Pants has gained popularity as a wine hangout for its commitment to offering guests exceptional wines by the glass without committing to a full bottle. This allows you to sample a variety of wines and expand your horizons, all while keeping the experience affordable. Despite its small size, Mr Pants delivers big on taste, offering an impressive selection of local and international wines carefully curated for your enjoyment.

Now, the team is bringing the beloved concept to more wine enthusiasts who crave a remarkable wine experience that combines quality, affordability, and a welcoming atmosphere.

Named after his dog Cooper, who embodies the spirit of adventure, owner Shayne Holt says that the Cape Town branch promises the same delightful experience for locals and visitors alike.

“The concept will be much the same. About half local, half international wines, all by the glass low markups but the wines will be more premium to begin with. The wines on offer are generally limited so theyll change often and there’s simply not enough supply on many of them. There wont be a menu. The shelf will be the menu, with price per glass written on the bottles,.” he says.

If you find yourself hungry, there will be a small but enticing selection of charcuterie options that are the perfect accompaniment to your wine experience. In addition, guests will be welcome to order from neighbouring restaurants.

With a deliberate choice to forgo traditional décor, Cooper’s ambience will be one that allows the wine itself to take centre stage. “We have no décor. It’s barebones. I want the offering to be the reason people come,.” says Shayne.

Cooper will be based at 32 Parliament Street, on Church Square, and has adopted a no-reservations policy, so you can simply walk in whenever you’re in the mood for exceptional wines. The operating hours are 4pm til 10/11pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
