Brought to you by SAB
Earlier this month, together with SAB we issued you a challenge: to find the best pub lunch in South Africa. This week Barn and Barrel in Port Elizabeth has won the title for a second week, earning the hearts of pub dwellers with their double Dagwood burger and a Hansa Pilsener draught (R89).
Still relatively young for a pub, Barn and Barrel is the almost four year old venture of owners Dorette and Andre Naude, and is known for their generously portioned home-cooked-style meals. Barn and Barrel regulars keep coming back for their pork spare ribs (available in 350g for R65, 500g for R102 and 1kg for R165), fresh hake (R69) and deep fried calamari (R68). All meals, including the winning pub lunch, are of course served up with chips and onion rings.
Andre says he is flabbergasted and grateful for their win. He says that #BESTPUBLUNCH competition was a good experience that allowed them greater exposure to a whole new crowd of people. We don’t doubt they’ll be coming back for more.
