Happy Hour just got happier in Cape Town. Bree Street’s trendy Burger & Lobster is known for its eponymous three-dish menu, as well as for its range of unique cocktails and desserts, but now it’s branching out. With its great new bar snacks, Burger & Lobster might just become your new favourite Happy Hour spot. Expect a brand new menu filled with quirky American tapas-style eats and two-for-one drinks.
It may be expanding its menu, but the restaurant isn’t straying from what it does best. Expect slider burgers, mini deep-fried burger bombs, mini prawn rolls, lobster-and-prawn bites and scrumptious popcorn-like kernels of prawn served with an amazing garlic aioli. However, if you like neither burgers nor seafood, there’s still something for you. Buffalo wings (either spicy or BBQ), pork ribs with a Jack Daniel’s glaze, and popular bacon-filled mac-and-cheese balls wrapped in phyllo pastry also feature. The best part? Every single dish costs just R38 each.
This menu is available from 4pm to 7pm every day, during which you can also buy any of the selected cocktails, draught beers (Redrock or Heineken) and by-the-glass wines and receive another free. The menu ranges from the stunning Coney Island (Bombay Sapphire gin and sweet vermouth shaken with apricot jam, passion fruit and lime, and topped with coconut lime foam) to the punch-packing Hawaii 5.0 (Bacardi Carta Blanca, Pyrat rum and litchi liqueur, shaken with mango puree, guava juice and orgeat). Wines include Bramptom, Linton Park and Graham Beck varieties.
Make sure to get to Burger & Lobster early – all Happy Hour specials are only available at the bar and high tables. (The normal menu will still be available in the rest of the restaurant.) Snap and upload pictures of your deal using the hashtag #under39rand
