A guide to whisky cocktail spots across the country

Partner

Brought to you by Naked Malt

Many love whisky because of its depth of flavour and complexity. It’s also a staple in many cocktails, so we have rounded up a number of bars and restaurants across the country that offer a stellar whisky drink – from the classic Whisky Sours to more inventive sweet cocktails.

Naked Malt Blended Whisky helped us put together a list of spots in SA where one can enjoy a great whisky cocktail – from the classic Whisky Sours (which Naked Malt nerded out on btw) to more experimental tipples.

While Naked Malt is a solid character in a whisky movie this brand also knows a thing or two about taking a leap into unknown – it’s liberating to say the least and also helped to change the possibilities of whisky enjoyment forever. Join in.

Johannesburg

Sin + Tax

This speakeasy cocktail bar located in Rosebank serves a drink called Penicillin – aptly named because we think that this drink may cure you of all your weekday woes! Made with fresh ginger, lemon, acid, peat and Naked Malt Blended Whisky, it’s a fiery drink not for the faint of heart.

Well known for offering world-class cocktails, this vibey yet understated spot is a must-visit in the City of Gold.

Eat Out Woolworths Financial Services Service Excellence Award winner Forti Grill and Bar, a restaurant that serves up South African seasonal flavours with an Italian flair, has a delicious and refreshing twist on a classic whisky cocktail. The Honey Lemon Twist is a must-try for those wanting to dip their toes into something new. Made with Naked Malt, the tasting notes of custard and créme caramel come through strongly in this delicious cocktail.

Cape Town

Cause Effect

Located in Stellenbosch, Camps Bay and the V&A Waterfront, Cause Effect bar is known for its innovative and creatively presented range of cocktails. We highly recommend The Naked – made with Chenin cordial, Martini Extra Dry, soda water and Naked Malt whisky, it’s perfect for whisky lovers!

Bar by Rhys

Nestled in the iconic V&A Waterfront, Bar by Rhys offers a wide range of cocktails and the top of our list of recommendations has to be the uniquely crafted Whisky Sours, made with citrus, aquafaba, spiced nartjie cordial and rooibos bitters spray. This drink uses local ingredients and flavours to match the smooth flavours of Naked Malt whisky.
