We love to hear what foreign chefs think of South African flavours, so we were thrilled to see that Nigella Lawson was in town last week.
According to IOL, the celebrity chef was a guest speaker at the South African Council of Shopping Centres (SACSC) conference in Cape Town last week. “I have eaten boerewors, biltong and Mrs Balls (chutney),” she told IOL. Speaking to eNCA, she described her first impressions of South Africa: “It’s just so beautiful, and there’s something that really draws you in.”
On her Instagram account, she posted several pictures of the eminently Instagrammable Babylonstoren, including a snap of herself in the popular bird’s nest seat in the gardens. In the caption she explains that she was enjoying a “pre-book-launch relax” as a guest of the owner of Babylonstoren, just outside Franschhoek.
“I loved my weekend so much,” said the celeb chef in another Instagram post.
She praised the views and wine…
And posted several images of Babel dishes, including anti-pasti, a biltong-and-blue cheese pizza, and poached guavas with ice cream, which she described as “simple perfection.”
We definitely approve of this pizza:
Those guavas, though:

We can’t wait to see whether guavas will show up in a Nigella recipe soon!
