A new indoor market is set to open its doors for trading in Wendywood Shopping Centre on Friday, 18 September at 4pm, offering a social eating and shopping experience with an African flavour. Traders from countries such as Angola, Ghana, Nigeria and Ethiopia will sell their wares, as well as local traders like Longtom Foods and Spice Guru.
Jeje and Hannah Mathu Hamici, who both have a sales and events management background, are the driving force behind the new market. They aim to provide a platform for upcoming foodies, designers, artists and other creatives, and a space where people from different African regions can meet, swap stories, listen to music and learn more about one another’s food, culture and countries.
There’ll be a kids’ play and watch area, and occasional outdoor activities too.
The market will be open every Friday from 4pm to 9pm, and Saturday from 9.30am to 4pm.
They’re still accepting applications from traders: email wendywoodmarket@hotmail.com or call 076 658 5920.
