Veteran journalists, Tony Jackman and Diane Cassere, have dreamt for years of owning their own eatery.
Well the time has come and the small dorp of Sutherland is the place.
Their new country restaurant, Perlman House, opened a few weeks ago in Sutherland’s main street. Of course, when one thinks of Sutherland, star-watching at their famous observatory and freezing cold temperatures come to mind, but now good food has been added to the list of attractions.
Perlman House serves ‘honest food’ with lamb as the focus. All lamb and mutton is sourced from Sutherland’s local farm butchery – Kanolfontein.
Interesting lamb variations include Greek- or French-style shanks, lamb pies, leg of lamb and tagine of lamb. There are a few pastas dishes on the menu too as well as interesting poultry and game.
Try the ‘muise’ for starters, which turns out to be sheep’s liver parcels.
Almost an excuse to make a turn past Sutherland?
Dinner – 6pm daily (except Tuesdays)
Lunch – by arrangement
