The Green Heart Market is exactly what it sounds like, a vegetarian- and vegan-focused gathering that’s open to everyone who wants to enjoy a more conscious and wholesome lifestyle. Located at Pirates Sports Club in Parkhurst, Johannesburg, the market will run every Sunday from 8.30am to 3pm. This Sunday, 5 February, is the opening day.
“We want to bring people together, to share and enjoy a space where you are guaranteed to find healthy, natural, wholesome products,” says organiser Stacey Kernick. This venue has seen Sunday markets before, but Stacey, a yoga practitioner, has brought clear focus and direction to this green project.
Visitors can expect a beautiful abundance of fresh and organic fruit and vegetables, a variety of unprocessed foods, new vegan and dairy cheeses, gluten-free bakes and breads of all wholesome kinds, and generally foods that are good for digestion, taste buds and the environment. Green beauty products will be on offer, too.
The market is giving 10% of its profits to the planting of organic vegetable gardens for the community, and to train the people involved in them to be able to sustain themselves.

Will be visiting for sure. Lots of luck and thank you for this tremendous innovation!
What a grim disappointment. If the “beautiful abundance of fresh and organic fruit and vegetables” was there it was certainly well hidden. No produce, just the usual variety of food stalls and hippie clothing. And why do they think because we eat vegetables we want to hear to music played on the lute?
