With spring upon us, it seems a good excuse to gather the family for lazy outdoor lunches in the sun. Enter Bellevue Wine Estate’s brand new, contemporary-chic restaurant. Restaurant at Bellevue Wine Estate opened its doors at the beginning of September and is the brainchild of oenophile Marinus Neethling.
The extensive menu at the new eatery has something to suit all tastes: from classic breakfasts and bulky mains to mezze and charcuterie. The interesting offerings kick off with starters like pork-and-pistachio country terrine served with wild rocket and chutney. Mains include a panko-crusted chicken burger, platters for sharing and woodfired pizzas adorned with toppings like maple-roasted bacon with roast butternut and feta. A range of desserts round it all off. The children’s menu features its own section for desserts, as well as a selection of pizzas and an oozy mac and cheese.
As for the setting, Bellevue Wine Estate is deeply etched with history and boasts a Cape Dutch homestead built in 1803, making it over 200 years old. This is juxtaposed with the restaurant’s interior, which is clean and contemporary. There’s also a huge terrace overlooking the estate’s plush lawn – perfect for outdoor feasts with loved ones. Little ones are also looked after with a dedicated play area on the lawn.
Even better news: walk-ins are welcome and wines are charged at cellar door prices. The Restaurant at Bellevue Wine Estate is situated on Bottelary Road near Stellenbosch, inside of the cellar’s historical wings. It’s open Tuesdays to Sundays 9am to 5pm, and Fridays 9am to 7pm.
