Middelvlei Boerebraai

Stellenbosch wine estate Middelvlei has recently launched a fun addition to their weekend wine-tasting repertoire. From Friday to Sunday, Middelvlei's Momberg family are welcoming young and old to partake in their convivial boerebraais.

Resident braai expert and spitbraai king, JD de Villiers will be tanning your choppies to perfection while the folks at Middelvlei will be looking after the by-kos (side dish) spectrum of things.

Complementing the meaty treats will be traditional boeretreffers like roosterkoek (braai-baked bread rolls) with snoek and liver pâtés, braaibroodjies (cheese, tomato and onion sandwiched toasted over coals), pap-en-sous, pampoenkoekies (pumpkin fritters) and moreish malva pud. Those wanting show off their braaing prowess are more than welcome to bring and braai their own bits while soaking up the friendly atmosphere.

Good news for parents is that this is a very family friendly affair, so kids will be able to occupy themselves, running around the sprawling estate, feeding farm animals and going for tractor rides. There's even a kiddies' snack box option where the little 'uns can braai their own stokbrood (stick bread).

Of course, all that braaing action is thirsty work, which is just as well, since Middelvlei has recently released their newest pinotage, shiraz and cab sav, that are just begging to be tasted.

Middelvlei Boerebraais are R115 including meat, and R85 excluding.
