The word means complete change or positive conversion, and that is what Metanoia’s owner-chef Nick Mavro has seen happening in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. His part of this transformation takes the form of a lovely Mediterranean restaurant that was once a nightclub.
As invitingly coloured as the turquoise waters of the Med, Metanoia’s entrance is off de Beer Street. Inside, the pictures on the walls are all about what’s happening in this part of the city, and the floors show a take on Braam-deco.
From the teeny kitchen emerge fabulous flavours and impressive flatbreads, Nick’s special brag. He is an experienced chef and everything is made lovingly from scratch. The Metanoia menu is all about Mediterranean tapas and comfort food – and the more dishes and people enjoying them together, the merrier.
While doors opened on 10 April, the big official launch is still to come. Stop by in the meantime for delicious bites from 11am every day of the week. Metanaoia is open late, until after midnight, on weekends, so it’s perfect for social gatherings with friends.
