In the heart of Joburg’s bustling culinary scene lives a man whose journey to becoming head chef at The Pot Luck Club Johannesburg, an Eat Out-starred restaurant, is both inspiring and flavourful. Meet Ebie du Toit, whose path to success was paved with determination and a hunger for learning.
Originally from Eastridge in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town, Ebie’s story begins a decade ago in the esteemed halls of The Test Kitchen, where he first dipped his toes in the world of hospitality. Amid a turbulent, fractured family life, the kitchen soon became more than just a workplace – it became a sanctuary.
“The kitchen gave me stability and a sense of community,” he reflects. “I felt that I was being taken care of and uplifted by people who chose me for this position. Their constant support was a stepping stone to levels I could only dream of previously.”
