If you’ve spent any time on Sea Point’s Regent Road then you’ll know all about the bagel and brunch queues at New York-style deli, Kleinsky’s. We’ve got some good news for city bowl dwellers: the trendy eatery has opened a small branch and bagel hatch in Church Square on Parliament Street.
The city bowl branch, which opened its doors on 2 October, is settling into its new courtyard home under a pergola facing Church Square. The eatery has a leafy seating area outside – which is still getting its final touches – with a hatch that serves onto the courtyard for a grab-and-go feel.
As for the bagels, brunches and Benedicts, this branch of Kleinsky’s will offer the same menu as the Sea Point spot, with an added focus on ready-made bagels and salads for office workers to grab and go. Expect to see favourites like the latke eggs Benedict with pastrami or salmon; the popular bagels filled with home-blended shmears; and comforting matzo ball soup. There’ll also be hot dogs and sandwiches on offer for quick lunch bites, as well as a morning bagel, shmear and coffee special for R36.
Kleinsky’s in the City Bowl is now open Monday to Friday from 7am until 4pm, with plans to open over the weekends as soon as the outside seating area is complete. Find them at The Piazza on Church Square, 32 Parliament Street.
The Idea by Ubrban and Lime was to bring life back to the square. Closing at 4pm wil do nothing to build this vision. Closing at 4pm is no benefit to local residents. Just another dark spot after hours. Total disappointment!
