The newest Cool Runnings in Jozi is situated in an unlikely area, Victory Park, a tame, upmarket suburb. Even stranger still, the chilled Rasta bar-cum-restaurant takes up the top floor of a shopping centre, where soccer moms and charming old bobbas do their grocery shopping at the Pick n Pay next door.

But it’s packed on a Friday night, which either proves that people are willing to travel to have a good time at the end of a hard working week, or that soccer moms and charming old bobbas enjoy Caribbean-styled cocktails and shaking their booties to Bob Marley and The Wailers.

The new spot’s décor has a similar rustic island feel to the other branches, but it’s a just bit bigger. The menu carries the same casual Cool Runnings fare, including as their Jamaican-style curries – be brave and try the smokin’ hot “island green chicken”.
