You may have heard of guerrilla warfare and guerrilla marketing, but have you ever heard of guerrilla cuisine? This new trend is hitting Jozi, with a host of ‘Limited Edition’ restaurants set to pop up all over the city in coming months.
Titled ‘eat’, the initiative is the brainchild of Dutch-born chef, Arnold Tanzer.
"We're going to have fun with this concept", says Tanzer, explaining that he plans to bring superstar chefs, experimental themes and concepts, mixologists, and imaginative designers, to venues not associated with fine dining.
“The mission of the eat concept is to create memorable gastronomic and social flashes that exist for a moment and then vanish,” says Tanzer. “The evenings are set up like a magnificent dinner parties, where guests are encouraged to interact and share their passions.”
The events will take place every five weeks, and venues and locations will be kept secret until the last day. Bookings are already full for the first of the events, taking place tonight and tomorrow – Tuesday, 29th and Wednesday 30th of March – at Narina Trogon at 81 De Korte Street, where Tanzer will be serving up a five course, autumn-inspired feast, with dishes like white chocolate and caviar, line fish with cauliflower, atchar and caramelised pineapple and frozen chocolate lamingtons on the menu.
