The Gin Dock, a brand-new pop-up bar in the heart of the V&A Waterfront, has officially launched just in time for the Mother City’s high season. The new bar, which joins a slew of new spirits spots to open in Cape Town, is a collaboration by A Mari Ocean Gin, Geometric Drinks and Hope on Hopkins Distillery.
The gin-tasting bar is located at the Scheryn Pavilion, former home of the Zeitz MOCAA exhibition, and boasts breezy white décor and an open deck overlooking the marina. The pop-up will run during the summer season from December until February 2018 and will be open from 12pm to 9pm daily.
“If you’re a gin lover, this is the place to be this summer,” says Lucy Beard from Hope on Hopkins. “It’s the ideal place to laze away an afternoon and try some really unique South African gins.”
As for what’s on the menu, visitors can expect products from A Mari Ocean Gin, Geometric Drinks and Hope on Hopkins served in refreshing G&Ts, as well as a selection of curated classic gin cocktails such as the classic martini or negroni. The mixers are all locally produced, too. G&T creations could include the likes of Geometric Gin with Symmetry Floral tonic, star anise and a wild foraged sour fig, or A Mari Atlantic Ocean Gin with Symmetry Floral tonic, Madagascar peppercorns and grapefruit. All G&Ts are R65 a pop and come with a 40ml dose of gin.
The Gin Dock will also be featuring some guest bartenders including Julian Short from Joburg’s Sin + Tax as well as some happy-hour deals from 4pm to 6pm on weekdays.
