There are certain cravings that are unavoidably curtailed by either having to make the item yourself or leaving your house. Traditional African cuisine used to fall under that category but now, thanks to Lele’s African Cuisine, that problem is no more for Gauteng residents. Partnered with UberEATS, Mr Delivery, Zulzi and OrderIn, Lele’s will get foods like mogodu, mleqwa and dombolo delivered to your door.
Lele’s African Cuisine was founded by Hellen Moipone Gqoboka with the aim to innovate how African cuisine is perceived. “African cuisine has raised many of us but, to some extent, it is seen as inferior and not as glamorous. It is on this premise that the idea of Lele’s African Cuisine was born,” says Hellen. Restaurants like Mash Braai House have already executed the concept of African cuisine in a formal setting, but Lele’s is the first in Gauteng to deliver this type of experience to the comfort of your own home.
The menu is small for now, but packed with flavour. Options for mains include mleqwa (hardbody chicken), mogodu (tripe), lamb stew, and oxtail. Each main comes with three sides and a starch, which includes the likes of dombolo, pap, samp, chakalaka, butternut and cornbread. You could also accompany your food with home-made butter scones (accompanied by butter, jam and cheese) and home-made ginger beer.
Lele’s currently delivers to areas like Fourways, Bryanston, Sandton and Randburg, but Hellen is hoping to expand throughout Gauteng and, eventually, to all of South Africa. We can’t wait.
