Look out, tea lovers! There’s a new dedicated tea café in town, situated at Cape Town’s biodiverse garden, Green Point Urban Park. The new daytime spot, aptly named Tea in the Park, was launched by Reliance Compost and is the first café to open in this popular community space.
Tea in the Park is located within the lush park grounds, with its spectacular backdrop of Cape Town stadium and Table Mountain. The family-friendly café offers passersby a spot to relax, with a spacious, dog-friendly outdoor terrace and a cool indoor area.
As for the tea-time treats, the food menu offers a wide but simple selection of fresh and tasty lunches – or simply a snack to-go – seven days a week. Expect everything from toast with various toppings and quiches to sandwiches and wraps (with gluten-free options). And, for some accompaniments with your tea, there are koeksisters, gluten-free brownies, milk tart, and a carrot cake with poppy seeds that we hear is addictive.
On the refreshment side, there’s a variety of herbal tea options from Dilmah and Twinings Tea, including ginger and honey, mint, chamomile, Rooibos, green tea, Five Roses, English breakfast and Earl Grey. There’s also a delicious brew of homemade lemon-Rooibos ice tea for scorching summer days. For those seeking coffee, Caturra beans are on offer.
With its concentration on celebrating local food, recycling, culture and community, Tea in the Park is dedicated to creating a space for educating the youth on environmental impacts and concerns, as well as sustainable practices. There are even environmental workshops available upon request.
Tea in the Park is open seven days a week from 9am until 5pm.
