One of Cape Town’s most popular eateries, El Burro in Green Point, is set to open a new restaurant in mid-July in Tamboerskloof.
El Burro Taquería will be a pared-down version of the original El Burro in Green Point, with smaller plates and counter service instead of table service. “A taquería is a taco shop in Mexico, so that’s the idea we’ll be focusing on,” explains one of the owners, Nic Haarhoff. There will also be a no-reservations policy.

The new restaurant will be on Kloof Nek Road, opposite Rafiki’s and The Power and the Glory (where the pharmacy once was, for those who know the area).
As for drinks, you can look forward to tequila cocktails, draught beer on tap and a small selection of wines by the glass.
The new location in the family joins the El Burro eatery in Green Point, Cabrito, the group’s tequila bar, and the El Burro Mexican food truck that’s known for its Sunday servings at House of Machines in the city bowl.
