The vibey, modern-day Irish pub on Durban’s Florida Road is set to open another branch in Cape Town within the next month. The new bar and grill will be located on the old Gourmet Boerie site on the corner of Kloof Street and Buitensingel.
Established in 2013, Dropkick Murphy’s is renowned for its festive atmosphere, extensive selection of beers and gourmet pub grub. We’re talking about deep-fried mac-and-cheese balls, cups of crispy bacon served with a dipping sauce, pretzel-coated chicken, a Guinness-and-beef pie, and crunchy fish and chips. Did we mention the cups of bacon? The menu will be created by executive chef Neil Coventry and will focus on high-quality burgers – and a few of the aforementioned specialities.
General manager Johan Blauw, previously at Orphanage and the One & Only, will head up the Cape Town team. He will be joined by bartender AJ Snetler (World Class mixology competition finalist, 2015) and assistant manager Paulo Pinheiro, also from the One & Only and an award-winning home-craft beer brewer. The duo will be curating an exciting beverage selection with the focus on craft beer and high-quality cocktails.
Says group operations manager Ryan Duvenage, “We’ve been working hard to craft a superior, updated concept, while keeping many of the elements that make Dropkick Murphy’s what it is – a place that offers creative comfort food, a relaxed and unpretentious feel with a vibrant atmosphere, and exceptional value and quality.”
Dropkick Murphy’s has yet to set an opening date, so stay tuned to Eat Out for more details.
