The drink
When a drink is lauded for having “people rise from the dead”, one can’t help but be intrigued. And once you taste it, you will believe in its magical powers. Whether you have a hangover or not, the Bloody Mary (R50) at Clarke’s in Bree Street is, well, bloody good.
How it’s made
Served in a Consol glass, this magic red potion is made with two shots Stolichnaya Premium Vodka, tomato juice, and a few generous shakes of Worcester sauce and Tobasco sauce. It’s garnished with a fresh slice of lemon, a few olives, salt and black pepper and their secret (and very delicious) ingredient, Maggie’s Pickled Spicy Beans. The latter compliments the spicy drink beautifully by providing just the right amount of tang.
Also try
The rest of the short list of cocktails is equally interesting. Try the refreshing Georgia Punch (R38) – iced tea with El Jimador and Southern Comfort served with ice, a fresh orange slice and mint – or the classic Martini (R42), made with Bombay Sapphire and stuffed olives. Best of all, selected drinks and snacks are half price during happy hour, that begins at 5pm every day.
