Dining in the dark

An American-based restaurant group, Opaque, challenges the conventions of eating out by keeping their guests in the dark – literally.

Based on the original French concept by Edouard de Broglie, Dans le Noir, diners at Opaque are served by blind staff in a pitch black room.

A range of set menus offer conventional-sounding modern dishes such as tuna tartare with mango, green onion, black sesame wonton crisps and citrus aioli, or pasta with sundried tomato, basil pesto and sautéed radicchio. They believe consuming well-known flavours in complete darkness, changes the way it is perceived on your palate…

By restricting your vision, Opaque claims to offer you a multi-sensual dining experience.
