winesense is a chain of concept wine stores with the motto ‘savvy not snobby’. It has provided a refreshing new style of buying and tasting wine which allows you to purchase an electronic chip and taste wines before you buy them.

The Kalk Bay outlet, open since December last year, has a wonderful setting with an outdoor section alongside the main road. Good news is that this one serves yummy food too providing an all-round experience.

The menu is tapas heavy, featuring Asian, Mediterranean and African tapas as well as bigger dishes such as Ostrich steaks and Parma Ham Salads and of course sweet things too for afterwards.

Wine pairing suggestions are plenty – each dish in fact provides you with three different good matches to try out. Wonderful knowledge to impress others elsewhere!

We love: the fact that you can just try a little taster of different wine with each course or tapas plate if you don’t want a whole glass (R3 – R5 for a taster).

Other Cape Town stores include Cavendish, Mandela Rhodes Place (opening in April and serving food too, buffet-style) and Willow Bridge. Joburg stores are in Melville and Melrose Arch (serves finger food).
