What’s the longest table you’ve ever eaten at? On 13 May 2012 Cape Town’s own rather large one – Table Mountain – will host 700 people at one table to raise funds for abused and orphaned children. Now in its 11th year, the Table of Peace and Unity will see the public, dignitaries, celebrities and religious leaders enjoying a three-course meal together. ?
Peter Tempelhoff (of Eat Out Restaurant of the Year, The Greenhouse) will prepare the starters, together with Delia Harbottle (also of the Liz McGrath’s The Collection), which will comprise miso-and-sesame cured salmon, ginger prawn spring roll with soy-jalapeno dressing, and beetroot carpaccio with mushroom spring roll and goat’s cheese mousse. An additional three top chefs will prepare the main courses and desserts. ?
Danny K, PJ Powers, the Guguletu Tenors and Sterling EQ, and several other musicians will provide the entertainment. This year there will also be a children’s table set up alongside the main table. ?
Initiated by the Good Food & Wine Show, the initiative has raised close to R12 million for children’s charities since its inception. The beneficiaries include Operation Bobbi Bear, Door of Hope Children’s Mission and COPESSA in Johannesburg; and the Nceduluntu Sanctuary Trust, The Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation Youth Centre, the Unathi Township Creche, and City Angel Christine Booysten in Cape Town; as well as a number of other City Angels around the country who dedicate their time and resources to working with abused or abandoned children. ??
Tickets: R500 per person for a spot in the centre; R450 per person for groups of 10 or more; R400 per person for the ends of the table; and R150 for children aged between five and 12. ?
Book: Computicket. ?
Date: 13 May 2012 at 12 noon.
