Chef Candice Philip announces residency at The Peech Hotel’s Basalt

Candice Philip, formerly head chef at GREI at the Saxon Hotel, shared news that she will once again be collaborating with The Peech Hotel following a very successful guest chef pop-up that she ran there last year. The Peech Hotel team initiated the pop-ups to support independent Joburg chefs during the pandemic.

Candice says: “During my residency at Basalt, I want to focus on connection, bringing people together again with open hearts and open minds, and providing an opportunity for them to reconnect through sharing an amazing experience.”

Candice was the winner of the Mercedes-Benz Eat Out Nederburg Rising Star Award in 2018 and has worked with renowned chefs David Higgs and Luke Dale Roberts. Her residency at Peech will run from mid-May to August and will kick off with a six-course menu offering highlights such as linefish ceviche with pickled kombu and pea and wasabi mousse, and her famous veggie dessert featuring parsnip with whisky and coffee.

Candice told Eat Out that her idea is to keep changing the menu often and not necessarily sticking to a six-course menu. She’ll be mixing things up every now and then, so keep an eye on social media for updates.

Reservations will open on 10 May for dinner Thursday to Saturday evenings, commencing on 20th May.
