The Cellar Boutique Restaurant at Honeywood Forest Lodge and Spa in Port Shepstone is a luxury spot worth a visit, says Eat Out critic Nicola Jenvey.
The small menu changes regularly, but guarantees universal appeal and ingenuity. The descriptions will have your taste buds watering long before the promised dishes arrive at the table. The starters might include a Thai mezze platter with pork wontons, chicken satay with green curry mayonnaise, coconut milk-battered prawns and sweet chilli vegetable spring rolls. Otherwise, be wooed by tempura prawns or the classic vegetarian dish melanzane: grilled aubergine and tomatoes layered with fresh basil and mozzarella cheese.
Among the mains are rolled and stuffed chicken breast; venison with shiitake, for which the meat is sliced, skewered, grilled and marinated with honey- and sesame-roasted butternut, roast garlic mayonnaise; or an enticing vegetable platter, beautifully presented.
The Cellar duck signature dish is another worthy temptation: grilled duck breast with crisp duck-meat parcel, slow-roasted butternut and potato croquettes in a red-wine reduction.
Anyone still seeking a sweet temptation can end with baked vanilla cheesecake, crème brûlée, chocolate platter or apple pie.
In keeping with the menu, the wine offering is enticing, with a range of options by the glass.
Prompt, efficient and professional without being intrusive.
The Cellar Restaurant presents an eclectic balance of homely paraphernalia with plush seating, crisp linen and polished glassware.
This is an intimate venue ideal for a romantic few hours with a partner. You can choose to sit indoors or on the patio.
