The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated many industries, the hospitality industry in particular. Even now, though restaurants are allowed to trade with restrictions in place, the alcohol ban has meant that bars can’t open their doors. But South African staff got creative. Charne van Heerden, head bartender at The House of Machines, fellow mixologist Katlego Manyathi, The Pot Luck Club’s chef Rigo Eichhoff and Cassandra Eichhoff, Director of the Cape Town European Bartender School, joined forces to apply their hospitality skills to a high-quality carwash service called The Cartenders.
The concept is simple: Cape Town residents can easily book a slot online for any day of the week, supporting the industry while getting their car cleaned by staff who go the extra mile. “We apply our hospitality skills to give all of our customers a fab experience,” says Cassandra. “Little things like having a comfortable waiting room with free Wi-Fi and coffee – even popcorn to snack on if you are hungry – rounds up the overall vibe and makes our customers get that extra value for money.”
The packages are comprehensive and affordable! A basic package will leave the exterior of your car glistening, while the standard packages include an exterior clean, vacuum and air freshener. They’ve got light vehicles, SUVs, sedans, vans and pick-ups all covered. Have your dashboard polished, tyres made squeaky clean, windows shined and interior smelling great – ready for adventures, long drives, mall trips, family errands and everything in between.
They’ve even got you covered after a day at the beach or muddy walk with your furry friend. The Cartenders take care of excess hair, sand and stain removal. They’ll also soon be adding upholstery cleaning to their menu of services.
So if you’re in Cape Town, stop in for a car clean as we count down the days until we can once again get our favourite drinks made by the highly talented bartenders on this super team.
