Boekenhoutskloof gets the Robert Parker nod

Winemaker Marc Kent is pleased as punch that his estate got a mention in the venerable Parker’s Wine Buyer’s Guide. This prestigious guide lists over 8 000 top wines from all over the world.

Marc says that he discovered his love for wine while working as a waiter at The Black Marlin in Miller’s Point. “The 80s was an exciting time for wine, Thelema and Glen Carlou had just started producing,” he says. “I won a competition for selling the most Glen Carlou Chardonnay at the Black Marlin and my prize was a day at the winery. In those days they didn’t have refrigerated tanks for fermenting white wine so the owners, Walter and Jill Finlayson, brought in railway fridges. It was an experience I’ll never forget. The Finlaysons encouraged me to study winemaking at Elsenburg. I’ve never looked back.”

Marc enjoys eating out; he says that Rust en Vrede is at the top of the heap for food and ambience, and on their first date, he took his wife to Bean Bag Bohemia in Durban.
