Avanti, arguably Bloemfontein’s only authentic Italian family run restaurant, has expanded its offering by opening a coffee bar below the existing shop. The menu, compiled by daughter-in-law Louise and Mama Panelatti, smacks of Italian inspiration.

Pick-me-up coffees include caffè affogato, espresso topped with Italian vanilla ice cream (R20), and caffè coretto, espresso with a dash of grappa (R20). Delectable quick snacks include the must-try sardine arrostite – grilled sardines, bell peppers and olives served on rice (R50).
