Mark Solms approached me one day with the name Cape Jazz Shiraz and asked me to create a wine that would suit the name – something not yet seen in SA,” says Solms-Delta’s winemaker Hilko Hegewisch. “So with his dreams and my technical know-how, we came up with a pétillant shiraz.”
Richard Astor came up with the musical moniker, “Richard (and Mark) have a great love for South African music,” nods Hilko.
This delicate bubbly is made in a lambrusco-style, so while there is a hint of sweetness on the palate, the finish is dry.
“The wine is very well suited to the SA climate. It’s light, refreshing and the alcohol percentage is low too,” says Hilko.
The blushing sparkler is Solms-Delta’s top-seller and is being exported all over the globe and earlier this year was named Best Sparkling Wine on show (and awarded a Double Gold medal) at the WSWA show in Las Vegas.
