And a partridge in a pear tree…

As I write this week’s newsletter, there are only ten days to go before Christmas. And being the avid Christmas carol fan that I am, a specific line of my favourite one comes to mind – ‘a partridge in a pear tree’. So I thought this was the perfect time to share my perfect foodie find for Christmas, a slim bottle of Poire William liqueur!

The bottle I brought back with me from Paris has been empty for some time now – the result of too many French pear and chocolate tarts! I had no idea that a similar one is produced in South Africa, and it’s pretty good too. Wilderer’s in Paarl distils a local version of this sweet and fragrant pear liqueur. Williams is an old-fashioned, intense pear-flavoured grappa and is delicious with a wedge of creamy gorgonzola and walnuts, or just sipped on its own – preferably ice cold.
