5 great restaurants for late-night snacks in Cape Town

Looking for a spot to refuel after hours? We’ve hunted down five of our favourite spots in the Mother City for late-night eats.

Beerhouse (City Bowl)
While it draws crowds with a huge menu of lagers, ales, wheat beers and stouts, this Long Street spot also serves pint-perfect grub late into the night. The full kitchen closes at 10pm, but late night snacks include giant onion rings with chilli sauce, Beerhouse pork crackling, bitterballen, and hand-cut chips and homemade mayo.

The Creamery (Claremont, Mouille Point and Salt River)
Want to round off a dinner date or just stop by for a late-night treat? This ice cream parlour keeps scooping until 11pm. Order a sneaky portion of waffles and your favourite ice cream, or try their decadent hot cookies and ice cream at the newest Mouille Point branch. For a little midnight kick, take home a tub of Rosetta Coffee flavoured ice cream.

Hudson’s The Burger Joint (Claremont, Gardens, Green Point, Stellenbosch)
This popular burger spot serves its glorious patties until 11pm. Tuck into a rich Rockafella burger with eight-hour roasted pulled pork, cheddar cheese, and a fried egg, or a simple cheese burger with tomato relish and cheddar. Not in the mood for a burger? Try one of their cheesy pizzas. They also do takeaways for those late night pick-me-ups.

Nooka (Gardens)
This new vegetarian eatery serves up coffees and lunch during daylight hours, but stays open with late-night bites that are perfect for non-meat eaters. The fully vegetarian Middle Eastern menu is on offer from 8am until midnight, with options such as an actual cheese burger, with a patty of mozzarella, gouda and smoked cheese, coated in bread crumbs; shakshuka with two eggs and a side of tahini; or a mix of potato and sweet potato fries with homemade Nooka sauce and spices.

Shawarma Express (Sea Point)
Located on Sea Point’s Main Road – conveniently directly opposite Decodance – this quick-fix spot is perfect for the midnight munchies. Their falafels are outstanding, best eaten with a side of chips and a selection of their sauces. For carnivores, the tasty laffa shwarmas are served with lamb, hummus, lemon preserve and garlic and chilli sauce.
