Below we offer a deep dive into what it takes to earn an Eat Out star, ensuring that every meal is not just an occasion to eat good food but a remarkable experience to remember.

Menu
This section consists of several questions which address various aspects of the menu’s composition, including the use of seasonal ingredients (and/or preservation methods for out-of-season items), the conceptualisation of dishes, and the accuracy and clarity of cooking terminology. 

Taste and technique
This section delves into the core of culinary excellence, evaluating crucial elements such as textures, seasoning, and the freshness of ingredients. It also assesses the depth and balance of flavours, the precision in the execution of techniques, the appropriateness of temperatures, and the overall food presentation.

Service
Service is assessed on its seamless execution and timing, reflecting the front-of-house team’s expertise and knowledge. This includes their proficiency in drink service and the overall quality of hospitality provided to guests.

Presentation
Presentation focuses on the effort and thought put into the visual appeal of each dish and whether it’s cohesive with the restaurant’s concept. This includes creativity, plating, functionality and overall aesthetic.

Beverages
The Beverages section covers a range of elements, from the server’s knowledge to the variety and quality of beverages offered. It examines how well the drinks complement the food and contribute to the dining experience, and if they are congruent with the style of food that the restaurant serves. 

Ambience
Ambience evaluates the restaurant’s environment, considering factors such as decor and design, music selection, the comfort of seating, and the adequacy of temperature and lighting. This section gauges how these elements contribute to a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere. 

Perceived value
Perceived value rates the overall dining experience, determining if the quality of food, drinks, and service matches the cost. It assesses whether guests feel they have received a worthwhile experience for the price they paid.
