Restaurants serving up comfort food breakfasts this winter

As soon as the winter chill hits, we’re all about comfort food and long, lazy breakfasts. So here are just a few spots that we highly recommend for some serious comfort food for breakfast.

Hearty shakshuka

Naked Coffee (Morningside, Sandton City, Kramerville, Daytona Melrose Arch, Sea Point)

There is no shortage of delicious breakfast fare at Naked Coffee, but their hearty and warming shakshuka is just what you will need to keep you warm all winter long.

Leafy Greens (Muldersdrift)

If a shakshuka stack with toasted ciabatta, grilled halloumi and avo is your thing, then a shakshuka stack from Leafy Greens is a winter comfort must-order. They also have a vegan tofu version on offer.

Antique Café (Windermere)

Here you can find the Mediterranean comfort classic in all its glory: shakshuka with aubergine, vine tomatoes, onions, garlic, red peppers, avocado and paratha flatbread.

Our Local (Gardens)

They’re pet-friendly, they have vegan options, the décor is all kinds of quirky and trendy, and the shakshuka is perfection! Served hot with rustic toast that is perfect for dipping saucy eggs.

Eggs Benedict

Mulberry & Prince (City Centre)

A classic hollandaise is tricky to master and that’s why it’s the perfect breakfast item to order when out and about. Mulberry & Prince serves up some pretty spectacular eggs Benedict with their signature browned butter hollandaise and crispy house-made tater tots. The breakfast comforts don’t stop there, though – they also have Nutella French toast, warm polenta porridge, and burrata and truffle scrambled eggs on offer.

The Whippet (Linden)

There are three words that will have you running over to Whippet in a matter of seconds: buttermilk chicken Benedict. A toasted English muffin is topped with buttermilk fried chicken smothered in silky hollandaise sauce. PS they’re also pet friendly!

Stellski Coffee (City Centre)

Not only are they pet friendly, but they also serve some mean breakfasts, especially a golden eggs benny! Their eggs Benedict are served all day (along with all their other breakfast items) just in case you or your dogs aren’t morning people.
