Die Melkstal Green Leaves is a new destination café to check out and its location is its greatest drawcard. Opened in mid-November last year, the eatery is a sister establishment to the popular Melkstal in Rustenburg. This one is nestled within the beautiful Magalies mountains and among the offerings of the Green Leaves Country Lodge in Hartbeespoort.
Green Leaves specialises in weddings and conferences. The presence of Die Melkstal adds to this synergy with it already being a prime spot for functions such as kitchen teas and baby showers.
It’s the serene countryside and the picturesque mountain views that add to an event or dining experience here. Even a drive during the week just to escape and take in the natural scenery may be worth it. The destination is an hour’s drive from Johannesburg.
Die Melkstal boasts a modern vintage look with French undertones within a farmyard ambiance that is inviting and relaxing. It’s a family-run restaurant with son Sam Norris heading the café here.
The menu, which is consistent with the Rustenburg branch, caters for breakfasts, brunches and lunches.
Breakfast is a varied list of hearty options ranging from the Farmer Breakfast Stack, Joy Jars and platters to the open-maple Frenchie. The tantalising salads are protein forward – from salmon, prawn and calamari to a variety of chicken and beef options. The beef and berry salad is especially interesting.
From the extensive lunch section, the beef baguette and the chicken-halloumi-bacon stack are popular. And so are the burgers! The Melkstal Beef Burger is a lovely mix of the traditional and gourmet with a homemade patty, bacon, tomato, perfectly caramelised onions, grilled mushrooms and cheddar or blue cheese on a ciabatta bun. For Mexican flavours, Die Melkstal has its own signature nachos and tacos.
The café is also big on its cakes, gins and wines. On weekends the place buzzes with locals from Hartbeespoort. And when travelling or enjoying a retreat in the area, it’s definitely one to pop into.

I will like a visit to visit the place soon I get the exact location. Lastly, prebooking is necessary if the visit is for a minimum and maximum of 5 people.
Please give a guide in this regard.
Regards.
it is Hartbeespoort – not Haartebeespoort.
