Burgers and beers – that’s what you’ll find at the latest new addition to Joburg’s ever-growing Linden restaurant scene. Buns Out, which officially opened its doors just a few weeks ago, will focus solely on burgers in all its glorious forms: classic, veggie, gourmet and even vegan.

Thomas Savage of Savage Holdings (who has previously worked behind brands such as Social on Main and Saigon Suzy in Parkwood) has teamed up with Maps Maponyane (foodie, SA celeb and co-host of the Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards) to open this quirky new eatery located on 7th Street, Linden. “We aren’t traditional in our offering, and we are a bit more New York-style and casual,” explains Thomas of the new venture.
That’s not all. A Buns Out in Durban and Cape Town could also be on the cards, as well as a new project called PizzaCake.

What’s on the Buns Out menu? Chow down on classic buns like the New Bacon-ings with a juicy beef patty, streaky bacon, smashed avocado and chilli feta spread; or the Holy Schnitz burger with a golden chicken schnitzel and a creamy mushroom-and-cheese sauce.
For the more adventurous, there are options like the Is it Brie You’re Looking For with melted brie and a cranberry sauce; the New Yolk City with a sunny-side up egg, crispy bacon, and tomato; or the Sofishticated with a crispy deep-fried hake fillet, tangy coleslaw and gherkins.
For the vegetarians, there are four different options that can also be made vegan. Think quinoa patties, black bean and beetroot patties, or Beyond Meat burgers.

Buns Out is open Mondays to Sundays for lunch and dinner. The team is still waiting on a liquor licence and encourages diners to bring their own libations in the meantime.
