In 2017, chef Darren Badenhorst left Grande Provence to open his own restaurant, Le Coin Français, which earned a spot in the Top 20 best restaurants in the country at the 2018 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards. Now the top chef is opening Le chêne, which will also be located in Franschhoek.

Translating to mean ‘The Oak Tree’, Le chêne is housed in the beautiful Manor House at the historic Leeu Estates. “I am both honoured and excited to be opening my second restaurant in the village I love so much,” says Badenhorst. “I believe my creative and sophisticated cuisine will fit seamlessly into Leeu Estates, creating a synergy of two world-class brands under one roof. I feel privileged to be a part of their culinary journey.”
As for what to expect? More of what chef Badenhorst has become so well-loved for: French-inspired dishes made using regional produce – the restaurant intends to honour Franschhoek by serving up quintessentially local ingredients and a cuisine richly steeped in the valley’s heritage.
