Waffles, naan-wiches, burgers and sushi all under one roof? That’s what you’ll find at Durban’s newest culinary addition, The Food Box.
My Kitchen Rules South Africa season two finalists Kamisha Naidoo and Pashi Reddy have teamed up with Pashi’s younger brother, Peroshin, and One Fifty Capital to bring Durbanites a new foodie hangout that merges food, fashion and music in one market-style space.
The team’s new concept, which launched just a few weeks ago, allows local Durban talent a place to become vendors and showcase and build their skills with access to a fully developed restaurant set-up.
So, what’s inside? The new culinary haven is home to eight different vendors, as well as a fully licensed bar. The food offering includes fresh waffles on a stick; Japanese-inspired dishes such as sushi and teppanyaki; Mediterranean-style flatbreads and kebabs; juicy burgers; Nashville-style chicken; Thai dishes from Kung Thai; naan-wiches and more.
One Fifty Capital has also implemented waste management initiatives that aim to lower carbon footprints by promoting a reuse-and-recycle mindset. Tenants are also urged to move towards a greener model by reducing the need for plastic and electricity.
The Food Box is located at 199 Peter Mokaba Road, Morningside, and is open from Tuesdays to Sundays, morning until night. It’s also pet-friendly and hosts live music sessions on weekends. Head to their Facebook page to stay up to date with their latest events.
