Capetonians love a good brunch spot, and that’s exactly what the popular Starlings Café is for locals in the southern suburbs. Residents, employees and visitors in the Cape Town city bowl can now look forward to a new branch of the beloved breakfast café, which is set to open in August 2019 at a new luxury hotel called LABOTESSA on the historic Church Square location.
The new Starlings will be managed by Claremont proprietor Trish Kratz, who opened the popular eatery in 2008. So what can guests expect from the inner-city café? “Everything is homemade and made from scratch”, says Kratz. She will continue with her winning formula of elevating classic breakfasts and offering bountiful bakes made using seasonal and locally-grown ingredients.
Starlings at LABOTESSA will be located on the ground floor of the hotel in a restored 17th century townhouse at 5 Church Square, with easy street level access for members of the public. In summer, tables will spread out al fresco-style onto Church Square as part of a small courtyard garden.
Starlings LABOTESSA is set to open in August 2019 at 5 Church Square and will be open from 7am to 4pm daily. Stay tuned to Eat Out for opening date announcements and further developments.
