Owner's description

They have created a place and a space that’s whatever you want it to be. Pick any occasion, and this space works. Bones is for drinking, tasting, eating and meeting. It’s for an early dinner, a special lunch. It’s for an office lunch to-go, a quick latte or a post-work ice cold lager.

It’s for a very fine steak, a great piece of fish or a good, solid burger or a pasta and a glass of wine, or maybe just a ‘spoil me’ cocktail.

This is a fantastic restaurant, right on the cutting edge of a trend known as the Great Regression, actually a move towards a retro palate, that is, food with a respect for the integrity of ingredients cooked for flavour as opposed to effect. These guys understand that great cooking always adheres to basic principles. It ignores those irritating fads like purees, mousse, gels and 'soils'.it proudly proclaims that a simple cut of meat, roasted or broiled with respect for the integrity of the dish can yield the most satisfying results. It really starts with proper expertise in the kitchen, something that is lacking in the vast majority of restaurants. Try it, it won't disappoint.
Went to Bones for lunch during the week. The centre was dead and we were one of two tables in the restaurant. The service was average. I choose the pork belly which was voted the best dish out of the 8 ordered with the burger being the worst. Not sure what the hype is about this restaurant. It is not a family restaurant and not fine dining either. Hard to define and feel no need to ever go back as there are plenty of restaurants that are far better
Having called Bones Kitchen & Bar to check about their LoadShedding, and discovered it was 20:00:22:30. (How the hell can any restaurant survive this?) I was disappointed and chose to consider another day. However, within a very few minutes the memory of the sublime Pork Belly had me calling back for an early reservation. The welcome from the owners was warm as previously (able to smile under such stresses). So an aperitif of Hendricks GnT’s and ordered the Parmesan BonBons and Brodo, tortellini, Mains of course Pork Belly and a ribeye steak cooked to perfection. All beautifully presented. Didn’t feel rushed even though the lights will be going off, enjoying a view of Devils Peak/Table Mountain as we finish off a lovely Sauvignon Blanc. Doubtful that we’ll be able to squeeze in a desert, but I’m also glad to see that there are many patrons that want to experience this little gem in Woodstock and are willing to eat early.
A newly opened restaurant in the Palms centre and I would definitely recommend! Husband and I went for dinner- service is very attentive and friendly from everyone. Feels like you are being served at their home. Menu makes for an interesting read- we shared the parmesan bon-bons (must try) and I had a hot buttered rum cocktail that feels inspired by Harry Potter’s butter beer! For mains- the pork belly and fillet with fries. Exceptionally well cooked. Ambience- nicely designed space but the acoustics are an issue. Hope they will be very successful for years to come.
Food was awesome. This could easily become my regular go to place.
