Pizza, pasta and gourmet salad creator Col’Cacchio has announced the opening of two certified halaal stores – a first for the brand. The Atholl store was the first to be converted into a SANHA-certified halaal store, boasting a brand new menu, look and feel. Consumers can expect all the tried and tested iconic Col’Cacchio favourites, as well as a new range of mocktails. Hot on its heels, the Canal Walk store was converted into a certified halaal store on 25 April.
“Our strength has always been to listen to our customers and make them a part of the Col’Cacchio family. We hope that by converting these key locations into certified halaal stores, we will continue to serve the communities we are proud to be a part of,” says Kinga Baranowska, co-founder of the Col’Cacchio Food Group.
Some highlights from the new halaal menu:
● Hollywood Scene – a crowd favourite pizza with macon, thyme, rosso onion, avo and crispy onions.
● Salmone – back on the menu due to popular demand, the Salmone pizza is made with delicious smoked salmon, rocket, sour cream and black pepper.
● Makhani – a toasted piandine made on thin Italian flatbread, folded and toasted with hearty butter chicken, crispy onions and galbani fior di latte mozzarella.
Founded in 1992, Col’Cacchio is known for its made-from-scratch pizzas, innovative salads and moreish pastas. Due to their focus on preparing everything in house, they’ve been quick to respond to many dietary trends and were one of the first in the market to introduce carb-conscious options for pizzas, salads and pastas. Their offering now includes halaal options as well as gluten-free and vegan alternatives.

Well how disappointing no ham no beer or wine? As a regular I’ll be boycotting the Col’cacchio brand just like all Halaal establishments, sooo simple!
It’s not all of the Col’Cacchio restaurants that are converting to be Halaal, Marc, only the Athol and Canal Walk ones. So still plenty of spots for you to get your fix 🙂
I’m with Marc on this one. This evening my family and I walked back out the door, at the V&A waterfront Col’Cacchio. Seriously, no Ham, wine or Beer! Oh come on.
We always visited Colcacchio V & A Waterfront for it’s lovely view, food AND WINE. VERY DISAPPOINTED today to hear there is no wine on the menu. Then tried Tonic Zero…also out of stock. Definitely won’t be visiting again and telling customers to go to another non-Halaal store, its that right if we’ve already driven 50km to get here?
Sorry to hear that you were very disappointed by this experience. We’re not sure why Tonic Zero were having stock issues, but we know that Col’Cacchio made this change to ensure that more South Africans can feel welcome in their stores to experience their delicious food.
I don’t get it. They don’t want to eat ham or drink alcohol so don’t eat ham or drink alcohol. Does that mean the rest of us can’t? I’m done with C’olcacchio – I won’t eat at any of their resurants from here on in. Pathetic
Since Col’Cacchio was founded 25 years ago, their mission has been to provide the best possible Italian-inspired dining experience to everyone. Over the years many customers have asked that they adapt their menu to accommodate them – which is how vegetarian, Banting and vegan menus were born! Opening a couple of halaal stores has helped them accommodate more customers. By no means are all the pizza-lovers at these stores halaal, they are as cosmopolitan as it can get. With the exception of the fact that there is no alcohol and pork products being substituted with halaal equivalents, the food is just as good as it has always been. Not all of the Col’Cacchio stores are changing, so there is bound to be one close to you where you can have an accompanying glass of vino with your favourite pizza 🙂
Really happy that we have more options especially a wonderful brand as Col’Cacchio. Had an amazing breakfast at the V&A store while on holiday. Looking forward to trying the Athol one when I get back to Joburg. Thanks for considering all your clientel.
So glad to hear it 🙂 Please do write them a review? It’ll count in their favour for the Best Everyday Eateries later this year and we donate a meal to Rise Against Hunger for every one written. And! If you do it on our app, you could win a Le Creuset casserole dish: https://www.eatout.co.za/competition/win-le-creuset-casserole-worth-r3665/
This is great! I ate there before and have eaten then after the accommodation was made and the food is really exactly the same so was the entire atmosphere! The more the merrier!
Great to hear, Sam! Agreed that more definitely does make for merrier 🙂
Really disappointing to read that people had the time to comment on the fact that they’re ‘sooo disappointed’ that 2 OUT OF 17 chain stores in the Western Cape, is now Halaal.. I mean @Col’Cacchio – how could you?…. Seriously people, be realistic, not all of us needs to have ham, beer and wine to enjoy a meal! I guess this is where you realize that there actually is Muslims living around you.. #Weareeverywehere.. Deal with it.
Love that hashtag! We were also pretty disappointed, but we’re glad “everywhere” now also includes our comments section 😉
Love the Canal walk store good food lovely vibe. Didn’t need the alcohol or pig meat to enjoy this lovely place.
