There seems to be no stopping chef Luke Dale-Roberts and The Test Kitchen‘s team. SA’s number one restaurant has just announced that they’ll be popping up at Mauritian resort and spa, Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa for six weeks, from 12 April to 26 May 2018, at the Republik Beach Club & Grill.
The pop-up experience will feature a culinary journey curated by Luke himself, assisted by 17 of his team. The Test Kitchen Mauritius will run over the same period as Luke’s other South African venture, The Drought Kitchen, and was initially conceptualised as part of his solution to keep all staff employed over the Day Zero crunch period.
Guests will be able to get a taste of The Test Kitchen with a tapas menu and a five-course menu, of which two variations will be available at different dates. The menus will be inspired by Luke’s journey around the world and will aim to showcase Mauritian spices and flavours at their best.
To mirror The Test Kitchen’s Dark Room and Light Room, guests will start their evening at the Republik Bar area to enjoy the tapas menu with cocktails before continuing the meal at the beachfront restaurant, where the five-course gourmand menu will be served.
The Test Kitchen Mauritius experience is priced at MUR 3,500 per person (around R1260), including a snack menu of four dishes served tapas-style in the Dark Room and a five-course gourmand menu in the Light Room.
For those who are lucky enough to take a trip to Mauritius soon, reservations can be made via 0800 028 3337 or sltr@shangri-la.com.
