Cape Town’s trendiest restaurant road is set to gain another new development in the shape of 36-storey retail and residential block, 16 on Bree. Demolition on the previous buildings at that address began last week.

Rhett Williams-Jones, marketing manager for developer FWJK, says that the new space will have a maximum of three restaurants, all with completely different cuisines “in order not to compete directly and to give the public a wider variety of choice.”

Apparently two floors have been designated for retail space, and restaurants will either be on the ground floor or the first floor. There will also be up to two coffee tenants, because, as Rhett says, “coffee is life”.

FWJK is currently in negotiation with a few outlets, but no leases have been signed as of yet. Would-be Bree Street restaurateurs can enquire now via sales@fwjk.co.za.

When completed in July 2020, the block will be the city’s tallest residential tower, and will boast spectacular views of the mountain, sea and city. Naturally, there will also be a rooftop bar, though sadly the plan is for it to be used exclusively by residents.

“It will have a 180-degree view that stretches from Sea Point all the way around to Devil’s Peak,” says Rhett.
