The team behind the secret Gin Bar and hip broth bar Marrow is set to open its third venture this month, on Cape Town’s Longmarket Street. Aptly named The Botanical Bar, the new spot will focus on showcasing South African craft liquor and experiment with local botanicals.
Located just off buzzing Bree Street, the new concept from Anthony Gird, Michael De Klerk, Jeanne Marais and Dennis Williams will showcase local drinks producers and ingredients. Look forward to recreations of classics made with creative botanical tinctures, bitters, syrups, vermouths and shrubs. The tinctures specifically will form a library of flavours from which the bartenders can choose as they flex their imaginations.
The food menu is still being fine-tuned, but meze-style dips, breads and pickles will be on offer for the bar. The seated area will have a more substantial offering of sharing plates with vegetable-focused dishes and a few fish and meat options. The focus will be to use local, seasonal ingredients, incorporating South African indigenous botanicals in the form of dressings, oils, infusions and bitters.
The Botanical Bar will be open from Monday to Saturday at 160 Longmarket Street, Cape Town. Keep your eyes on the Instagram feed for the December opening date.
