If you’re looking for great sushi at great prices, we’ve done the job for you. We’ve rounded up nine spots across Johannesburg with value-for-money sushi deals.

Barilla Sushi (Randpark Ridge)

This no-frills sushi bar is a good option if you’re looking for a quick bite. And if you’re after a bargain too, visit on a Sunday or Monday when you get 50% off all sushi.

The Blackanese Sushi & Wine Bar (Maboneng Precinct)

Located in the uber trendy Maboneng Precinct, this is the place to be, especially on a Tuesday, when selected sushi is available at 50% off the normal price.

Celestinos (Fourways)

This Italian restaurant is not the most obvious choice for sushi, but who’s going to argue with an all-you-can-eat special? It’s available every Wednesday for R140 per person, which includes an unlimited choice of maki rolls, hand rolls, California rolls, fashion sandwiches, roses and nigiri.

FireRoom (Fourways)

A fairly recent addition to the Montecasino dining options, FireRoom promises “sushi like you’ve never experienced before”. Give it a try on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays at lunchtime, when all traditional sushi is on offer at half price.

The Harvard Café (Midrand & Germiston)

This spot is a must for those who have a passion for aviation, sushi and good deals. Every Thursday, the Harvard Café’s Midrand and Germiston branches serve half-price sushi.

Hashi (Linden)

Looking for a fresh take on sushi? Give the experimental and innovative sushi being served up at Hashi a taste. But make sure you go on a Wednesday, when the sushi is on offer for 50% less.

John Dory’s (nationwide)

As their slogan states: “Everyone loves John Dory’s” and that’s especially true for sushi fans after a good deal. Every Wednesday, the outlets around the country offer half-price sushi. Or from 11am to 4pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays you can choose any three green plates off the sushi belt for just R99.

The Promise Grill (Alberton)

The menu is diverse, offering everything from steak and lamb shanks to prawns. But don’t let it distract you from the sushi, which is available at half price every Saturday.

Qba Caffe and Cocktail Lounge (Edenvale)

There’s something for everyone at this vibey restaurant and cocktail lounge. Thankfully that includes sushi, which can be enjoyed at half price from 5pm to 9pm on Tuesdays and from 2pm to 9pm on Sundays (when the cocktails are also discounted).

The Rock (Sandton & Midrand)

At The Rock, Mondays aren’t blue, they’re ‘steaming’. Experience the Steaming Mondays specials for yourself, which offers half-price sushi all day.

Sushi Burrito & Co (Melrose Arch)

If you follow international trends, you might have seen the sushi burrito – this is your chance to sample it. Every Friday and Saturday, you can enjoy a three-course meal – including a starter, sushi burrito and dessert – for R250. Or you can dive into the all-you-can-eat sushi offering for R195.

Yamitsuki (Bedfordview)

Start the week off with three of the same colour-coded plates for the price of two. Or, for a good cause, reach for the pink sushi plates (R48 each) on a Tuesday. A portion of the cost of each pink plate will be donated to the Pink Drive’s breast cancer awareness initiative. Then there’s the daily R98 lunch special available between 11am and 5pm.

YuMe (Dainfern, Clearwater, Montecasino, Parkhurst)

Stop in at YuMe on a Monday when all sushi, except the purple plates, costs half off. Or visit on a Tuesday and get three plates of the same colour for the price of two.

Z Two (Douglasdale)

The new kid on the block in Bram Fischer, Z Two’s specials include half-price sushi every Monday between 11am and 10pm, as well as three of the same colour plates for the price of two on Tuesdays.
