The new sibling of Top 10 restaurant La Colombe has just opened its doors in Franschhoek. La Petite Colombe has taken over the space formerly occupied by legendary chef Margot Janse and her multi-award-winning restaurant, The Tasting Room. Dishes on the menu, conceptualised by Scot Kirton and James Gaag, include champagne-poached oysters; Asian-style salmon with aubergine, miso, kalamansi and avo; springbok tataki with pistachio, Jerusalem artichoke and macadamia nuts; pork-belly ramen with a soft-poached quail egg; and stone fruit with Valrhona chocolate, nougat, geranium, almonds and yoghurt. Best you book your table asap!
It is fabulous, we had lunch there, last Friday. While it might be the little sister, it is no clone of La Colombe, the menu and little touches, like “Meet the Chefs”, a course at the Chef’s table, make it unique in it’s own right.
